The premise:

"Performing market research in China in order to find potential business partners is no problem at all! Neutral and independent information can easily be gathered..."

Commentary:

Performing market research in China in order to find potential business partners and to know about their qualities, reliability, credit rating or other relevant specifications, while gathering neutral and independent information during the process, is most troublesome to anyone, without exception. A research agency or a bank runs up against the same kind of problems as any other foreign company that would like to perform market research on its own.

Usually, nobody is willing to give much information. When someone is generous in handing out material, prudence is called for. In this case the information should be taken with a pinch of salt. Furthermore, the interpretation of the material given is quite something of an art.

Sticking your nose into something on your own without asking is not recommended. In China, performing market research independently is just being done in a different way than elsewhere in this world. One is well-advised to co-operate with Chinese authorities and companies and to form an opinion only on the basis of consistent information coming from various sources.
